Is $435 a Good Price for Fence Repair?

I've got a fence post leaning towards my house, making my gate hard to open. I'm worried about eventually breaking or chipping some plastic. I bought the fence from Home Depot back in June 2018, and they had it installed by a large company called Peerless Fence Group in Chicago. I reached out to them about the issue, sent some pictures, and they quoted me $435 for repairs. They mentioned needing to reset the hinge post and possibly the end post, which requires digging and permits (about $100). This feels excessive to me. Is there a way to just adjust the hinge instead? Everything looks plumb except for the gate, which seems to be the main issue.

If they really need to dig out and reset both posts, then I’d say that price is pretty fair. But honestly, you might get away with just adjusting the hinge itself to fix the door without the extra hassle.

Thanks, I’ll definitely give the hinge a shot first!

Honestly, that quote sounds fair for Chicago, especially with all the extra work involved. I’m in Indiana, and for just rehanging a gate, I was quoted over $1,000! I ended up doing it myself with a friend and saved a ton.

Check if the posts are plumb. If they're straight, just adjust the hinge at the top to align the gate. But if the posts are leaning, that might justify the cost. From what I see in the pictures, the posts look fine to me!

Everything seems plumb except for the gate itself, so I think adjusting the hinge might be the way to go.
