Need Help Deciding: Booster Fans vs Flair Smart Vents for Upstairs Comfort

Hey everyone! I'm a new homeowner trying to make the upstairs (about 600 sq ft) in my house more comfortable because it tends to feel hot and stuffy. My HVAC system doesn't seem to push enough air up there, so I'm exploring two options to improve airflow. One option is to install booster fans that replace the existing vent covers, which are cheaper and easy to set up. However, I've read mixed reviews on their effectiveness. The other option is Flair Smart Vents that work with my Ecobee thermostat. They would automate airflow and potentially balance the temperature better but are a more expensive investment with a complex setup. I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether the smart vents are worth it or if the booster fans will suffice without breaking the bank. Thanks for any advice!

Check your insulation! An uninsulated attic will definitely make it hotter upstairs. Also, make sure there’s enough airflow. If your air return ducts are too small, nothing you install will help much. You might want to bring in a pro to make sure you have everything set right before investing in vents or fans.

Honestly, if you have the budget, I think the Flair Smart Vents could be a smart choice. They can sync with your Ecobee, which should help with balancing the temp better than just sticking with booster fans. That said, make sure you check for any other issues with the ductwork that could be causing the upstairs to heat up!

That's a good point! It's crucial to check your ductwork before investing in any new systems.

Have you considered a window AC unit? It's kind of a different route, but it could be a quick fix if your primary HVAC just can't handle the load. They can cool off the room effectively without major renovations, plus it's usually cheaper upfront than the Flair system! Just keep in mind the efficiency of your main unit too.

I totally agree! Window ACs can be a lifesaver, especially for those hot summer days when the main system just doesn't cut it.
