Do I Need to Secure a Gazebo on My Patio?

I'm considering putting a gazebo on my patio, similar to the one from Costco. We recently stayed at an AirBNB with a gazebo by the pool, and I noticed it wasn't bolted down, which surprised me since they seem heavy. I'm in a suburb of Chicago, so I'm curious if I need to secure it to the ground or if it's fine as is. Anyone have experience with this?

We've had a couple of gazebos over the years. One of them was bolted into our deck, which was a must because we live in a windy area. We faced three incidents where it got loose, and after a big windstorm this spring, we switched to a sturdier polycarbonate roof and made sure it was properly anchored. Given that you're in Chicago, I’d definitely recommend securing it!

Thanks for that info!! But you know our city was so named because of the blustery politicians. The downtown is more windy due to the skyscrapers. ?

You might need to secure your gazebo according to local codes, which usually mandate how to install structures like this. Also, make sure to check the setback requirements from the property line and house. If you have an HOA, you’ll want to get their permission as well!

That's good to know about the code. When we're ready to "pull the trigger", I'll definitely check on the codes. Thanks!
