Why Aren’t My Tomatoes Turning Red?

I'm growing three varieties of heirloom tomatoes here in Minnesota, and although they've been on the vine for over a month and a half, they're still green! Most of the tomatoes are the size of a baseball or larger and appear healthy, though some have minor catfacing and stitching. Is it normal for them to take this long to start ripening after reaching full size?

I feel your pain! I'm in Minnesota too, and mine are stuck in the same boat. The temps here have been in the 60s to 80s and my tomatoes are seriously behind schedule. Even the "60 day" varieties are just sitting there green! A few cherry tomatoes have started to ripen, but the larger ones? Nope, nothing yet. I’m starting to wonder if it’s just a weird season for us!

Hey there! How's the weather been for you? In California, when it gets over 85°F, my tomatoes basically stop ripening. If it's too hot, that might be stalling them! But don't worry, it could just be the weather holding them back until it cools down a bit. Hang in there!

Have you thought about using shade cloth? I've heard it can really help with temperatures!

Here's a pic of my tomatoes in similar conditions; they look fine under the heat!
