Is It Safe to Dig a Stock Tank Pool Hole Next to My House?

I just moved into a new house in the Pacific Northwest that was built last year. I'm thinking about digging a round hole for a stock tank pool, about 9 feet wide and 3 feet deep, right next to my house. I plan to dig it about a foot away from the house, put sand at the bottom to level it, and maybe use some bricks or fill dirt for support. The soil around here has a lot of clay. Before I start, I'm wondering if digging this close to my foundation could cause any issues. Are there any tips or warnings I should be aware of?

I'd suggest you need more distance—aim for around 10-15 feet. Pools require solid walls for a reason; earth can shift, and a poorly supported structure could end up collapsing. Also, think about drainage for rainwater and groundwater—you need to plan for that too!

Totally! A strong setup is super important for avoiding leaks and collapses.

Before you dig, definitely call 811 to locate any underground utilities. It’s crucial to know where your water or sewer lines are, especially if they run close to the house! Honestly, I wouldn’t feel comfortable digging that near the foundation.

I really wouldn’t recommend digging that close to your house. It’s better to move the pool site a few feet farther away. You want to avoid any potential foundation issues down the line, trust me!

Yeah, I completely agree. Keeping some distance is key!
