Can I Use Hide Glue Temporarily Before Switching to TB3 on My Door Extension?

I'm working on a tapered extension for an exterior door that measures 32 inches long, 2-3/4 inches wide, and tapers from 1/2 inch down to 1/8 inch. My plan is to use hide glue to attach a piece of cedar to a tapering jig for cutting with my tablesaw. After that, I want to remove the hide glue and use Titebond III (TB3) for the final assembly. Has anyone had experience doing this? Will the TB3 bond properly after removing the hide glue? Any tips for using temporary glue while machining? I'm also open to other suggestions for a temporary adhesive. Thanks!

That's definitely an unusual taper for an exterior door! It makes me wonder if there might be a better long-term solution than just a tapered extension. But if you're set on this, make sure to check that your jamb is okay. Also, just so you know, Lowe's didn't carry hide glue when I checked either!

Thanks for the heads-up about Lowe's! Good to know!

You might find that super glue with some well-placed blue tape works even better for holding things during machining. It's easier to remove than hide glue, which tends to leave sticky residue. Or, consider using high-quality double-sided tape instead; it can also do the job nicely!

I used double-sided tape for a similar project, and it worked perfectly! Just like you wanted, it held strong and was super easy to remove after the cut. Glad to hear you're trying that approach!
