I just returned after being away for two weeks, and to my dismay, my apple tree, which had about 10 apples when I left, is now completely bare! There's not a single apple left on the ground or in any other signs of what might have happened. I know we don't have deer in the area, but we do have squirrels, skunks, and groundhogs. Could those squirrels be the culprits?

It's a mystery for sure! People can be sneaky and ‘borrow’ fruit when no one’s watching. But if it’s critters, you might want to keep an eye on those squirrels; they can be pretty aggressive when it comes to food. I’ve had raccoons and opossums swipe my apples in just a night!
Honestly, sounds like you might've had some stealthy raccoons or opossums around. They can really clear out apples in no time. The fact that nothing's on the ground suggests it was a neat job—likely four-legged thieves rather than humans!

Totally agree, and I've seen raccoons wipe out a whole tree in a couple of hours! They can be sneaky little thieves.
