What’s the Best Drill Size for a 16.5mm Cam Lock Hole in a Cabinet?

I'm working on a project where I need to drill a 16.5mm hole in a cabinet door made of particle board for a cam lock. I'm not sure what drill size would be ideal, and whether I should use a spade bit or a hole saw. I want to ensure I avoid any tear outs, so advice on that would be great too!

Consider starting with a 5/8 drill bit and see how that feels. Maybe drill a test hole in a scrap piece first to check fit, and then adjust up or down from there.

You might want to go with an 11/16ths drill bit. Also, wrapping some painter's tape around the area you're drilling can help reduce tear out. Forstner bits are also solid for this kind of job!

A Forstner bit would be a great choice for this! It gives you a clean hole without much tear out, which is perfect for cabinet work.
