Best Ways to Caulk Around a Toilet Without Messing Up LVP?

Asked By CraftyNinja42 On

I just installed a new toilet and caulked around the front and sides, but the caulk is accidentally sneaking into the texture on my luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. I'm looking for tips on how to prevent this from happening or how to clean it up post-application. I've tried wiping it carefully, but there's still some stuck in the texture. Any advice?

One option is to use clear caulk for a neater finish, but since you've already done it, you might want to consider using flexible caulk strips to cover the caulk up. They can neatly seal things without the mess! You can find them at most home improvement stores.

Oh, I didn't know those were a thing! Thanks for pointing that out!

Honestly, some people say you shouldn't caulk around a toilet at all. The idea is you should leave the back open to allow for any leaks to be seen. It might help in the long run, but I get that it can look messy without caulk. Just be careful about moisture buildup!

I've heard that too, but as long as you leave the back open, caulking can actually protect from spills. There are pros and cons!
