I'm planning to plant five bare-root golden raspberries against my south-facing backyard fence this autumn. Since this is a new build garden, I've only previously planted a few things in raised beds before taking a break for maternity leave. Currently, I have some chamomile and potatoes about a meter away from where I want to plant the raspberries, and there's an apple tree about two meters away from the potatoes. I'm not very experienced with growing raspberries, so I'd really appreciate any advice on what kind of trellis to use and any other tips!

I’m pretty new to gardening too, but I’ve seen a lot of folks use big pots with cylinder trellises made from chicken wire for soft fruits. It’s a great idea! I think it helps control the spread. I’m actually interested in purple raspberries, like Loganberries or Tayberries, but it seems the same principle might apply here.
You might want to check the specifics for the golden raspberry variety you're getting, especially regarding how tall they grow. Some types don’t need a trellis because they’re sturdy enough to stand on their own. If you've got some canes and supports left over from when you planted tomatoes, they might work just fine for your raspberries without needing to spend a lot.
That sounds like a smart plan! I'll double-check the height for my raspberries too. Fingers crossed I can make the existing supports work!

Definitely! I’ve heard raspberries can spread, so pots could be a great option. Just make sure the soil's well worked since you’ve already got plants there.
