I just took down some siding that might contain asbestos, and I'm curious about what happens when asbestos is disturbed outside. If it's blown around by the wind, does that mean it's spreading, or do the fibers settle in place instead? Are there any studies that explain how asbestos fibers behave outdoors?

When you're talking about asbestos in siding, typically we're dealing with non-friable materials. These aren't usually a huge risk if you're handling them properly. Just remember to keep the material wet to minimize any fiber release and avoid using abrasive tools. If you notice significant damage or plan to do more work, hiring a pro is a smart move; it might even be a local requirement. But for a small DIY job, being cautious with PPE and hydration should keep you safe!

Does that mean if I break some of it, a lot of fibers will be released? I wore my mask, but there were a few breaks.
