My wife and I recently bought a home that we absolutely love, but we're dealing with a frustrating issue. We don't have central air, so we've been relying on window AC units. Unfortunately, they're leaking quite a bit, especially during heavy storms. I've already tried some solutions which worked temporarily, but the problem keeps coming back. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this once and for all!

If you're dealing with rain hitting the units, you might want to try applying Flex Seal around the edges to keep water from leaking in. It’s a temporary fix, but it could help. You might also want to check the outside of the units for any gaps that could be caulked to prevent water intrusion.
Just a heads up, Flex Seal can be a bit tricky to remove later if you decide to switch to central AC.
First off, make sure your AC units are slanted a bit outward. If they’re leaning in, that could cause the water to leak inside instead of outside. Also, check the drain channels – they might be clogged. If the drip tray is blocked or if there's a crack in the internal condensation pan, that could be the culprit too. A bit of maintenance can do wonders!
Great advice! I had the same issue, and fixing the slope made all the difference for me.
Yeah, and don’t forget to clean the drip tray regularly. A little upkeep goes a long way!
If the leaking is really bad, consider investing in split systems instead of sticking with window units. They're not as pricey as you might think, and you can fix up the windows afterward. It's a long-term solution that could save you future headaches!
Totally agree! Plus, split systems are so much quieter. Definitely worth the upgrade!

I did that, and it worked surprisingly well! Just make sure you have easy access to the units.
