Help! New Homeowner Struggling with High Humidity Levels – Dehumidifier Advice Needed

Asked By HomeownerExplorer93 On

I'm a new homeowner and I've been dealing with pretty high humidity levels – 62% on the first floor and 72% on the second floor. My home is about 2165 sq ft, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to manage the humidity. I'm considering either getting one larger dehumidifier that can handle 70-95 pints or two smaller 50-pint dehumidifiers. My instinct is that the larger one might be more cost-effective in the long run.

I've also noticed there are different options on Amazon, like dehumidifiers with or without a pump, and I'm unsure about what I really need. Should I go to Lowe's for advice, or would buying one online with same-day delivery work if it's too heavy for me to carry? I'm not very handy, so I really need some guidance. Any help would be appreciated!

I had a similar humidity problem at one point, and it turned out to be a leak in my ductwork that was pulling in outside humid air. Once I sealed that, everything was fine. You might want to check your ductwork; it could be the source of your issues!

I've already had two HVAC companies come out to inspect, but nobody really checked the ductwork thoroughly. Should I look into hiring a plumbing company to investigate it?
