Is it normal for drain cleaner to stain shower pipes?

Hey everyone! I recently used a drain cleaner because my shower drain was a bit clogged. I followed the instructions, letting it sit for about 8 minutes, and then rinsed it out with warm water for around 10 minutes. After doing that, I noticed some stains left on the pipe. I'm concerned about whether this might damage the pipe or if it's something that's expected. Any insights or advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton!

I totally get your concern! It’s good to know that you’re being cautious with your plumbing. One-time use of a strong cleaner usually won’t ruin your pipes as long as you rinsed it well. But if you’re looking for something safer for future uses, go for enzyme cleaners. They're more pipe-friendly and better for regular maintenance!

Yeah, that kind of staining can definitely happen! Some drain cleaners are pretty harsh and can leave marks, especially on metal or chrome pipes. Most of the time, it’s just a cosmetic issue and not actual damage, especially since you rinsed it thoroughly. Just keep an eye on it for any signs of pitting or corrosion over time. If you need to use a cleaner again, you might want to try a gentler enzyme-based option instead.
