I recently bought a carbon monoxide detector, and it just went off by itself around midnight. It's been a little over a year since I got it, so I thought it should last up to 10 years. The alarm came with Kidde AA batteries, but I'm wondering—could it be the batteries, or is there a problem with the detector itself?

Lol, it's kind of funny that we have these devices to detect danger, and when they go off, we're not sure if they're doing their job! Seriously though, don't ignore it; better safe than sorry!
It could be either the batteries or that it actually detected carbon monoxide. Usually, low batteries will cause chirping sounds, while a real alarm would indicate CO presence. Definitely check your environment just to be safe!

Yeah, I made sure to check my gas appliances and any exhaust sources. Turns out it was beeping, not chirping, which is kind of scary!
