What should I do with my dead 20v batteries besides recycling them?

I recently dealt with my first dead 5 Amp XR battery, which may have died after I drained it completely in a fan. It's also a few years old and has seen some heavy use, including a 20v leaf blower and 2x 20v mowers before I switched to larger batteries. The battery shows no lights at all, but a charger indicates it's fully charged within a couple of seconds. I'm not very experienced with electronics and I don't own a soldering iron, so I'm wondering if my only option is to take it to a recycling bin.

I've had success using parts from dead batteries to repair others. You can salvage the circuit board or the gauge from your dead one for other projects. Just be careful and consider investing in a soldering iron if you want to do more of this in the future!

Yeah, definitely look up some tutorials on YouTube. It’ll help you get started! For now, it’s smart to hold on to those dead batteries until you figure out what to do.

Honestly, just tossing it isn't a great idea since it can cause fires in landfills. A better option is to recycle it. Lots of stores like Walmart and Home Depot have battery recycling bins set up. It's a responsible way to dispose of it!

You could try disassembling the battery! If some cells are still functional, you can save them for building a backup battery later. It’s worth looking into if you're into DIY projects! Just make sure to research how to do it safely.
