Hey everyone! We recently cut down a few trees in our yard and I'm thinking about using the wood to build some things, like a small stool. It's still pretty much just an idea for now, but I'm curious about the best way to store the wood until I'm ready to use it. Is there a particular technique for drying it slowly? By the way, the types are holly and mountain ash, if that matters!

You can definitely store the wood in places like your garage, attic, or basement. I'd suggest keeping the logs as large as possible, though. The thickness can really affect the drying process, as it might take about an inch of thickness a year to dry properly. Are you planning to mill it into smaller pieces now or leave it for later? Oh, and make sure you paint the ends with some thick paint as soon as you can to prevent cracking!
Yeah, I'd agree with keeping it larger if you can! It takes longer to dry but also preserves more of the wood. If you have tools, you might want to wait on milling until it’s fully dried. Just keep in mind that the moisture content will dictate how well it holds up when you start your project!
