What Schlage Door Knob Do I Have? It Lets Me Exit Freely While Keeping Outside Locked

Hey folks! I recently bought a home and one of the door knobs seems to be a Schlage model that I really like, but I'm having trouble identifying the exact type. Here's how it works:

- **Keyed on the outside**
- Has a **thumb-turn on the inside**

When the thumb-turn is in one position, I can turn the inside knob and exit without any issues, but the outside stays locked and requires a key to get in. When I turn the thumb-turn the other way, both the inside and outside are unlocked, allowing anyone to come and go freely.

This setup is perfect for me because I want to ensure the door remains locked on the outside even if someone comes out from inside. However, when I look for Schlage "Keyed Entry" knobs at stores like Home Depot, they seem to work differently—unlocking both sides when opening from the inside or locking both sides when engaging from there, which isn't what I'm after.

Does anyone know what type or model of Schlage knob this could be? Any help would be much appreciated!

That sounds like the Schlage A53PD Entrance lock with a turn/push-button lock feature. It fits your description pretty well! You might want to check it out online if you’re looking for a similar replacement. Here’s a link I found: [Schlage A53PD](https://www.neobits.com/schlage_allegion_a53pd_ply_605_11_096_f_kit2__p17226444.html?atc=gbs&srsltid=AfmBOorCV-gqojnukBJujgI3D3OI64pt9qiVhmT9C03ir5D0_oBeHgheRxI)

What you described actually reminds me of a commercial door knob, specifically the Sargent locks. If you can take it apart and check for any part numbers, that might help you identify it better!

Yeah, that’s a good idea! I’ll give it a try and see what I can find.
