What’s the Estimated Cost to Raise a Pitched Roof on Both Sides?

I recently checked out a house that almost fit our needs, but the high-pitched roof has created really sloped ceilings in the bedrooms, making them pretty much unusable. I know costs can vary based on location and specifics of the project, but can anyone provide a rough estimate on the cost to raise the roof on both sides to make those rooms more functional?

Renovating the roof can end up costing anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000. It involves tearing off the old roof, reframing, and adding new insulation. Plus, don’t forget about potential costs for drywall, paint, and possibly some electrical work. Since this type of change usually requires a permit and coordination among different contractors, it can add up quickly!

It really depends on what you're planning to do. Adding dormers is usually a lot cheaper than completely changing the roof style, like going for a mansard roof. So, think about if you just need extra headroom or if you need to fully elevate the space.

Honestly, if you're looking at a whole roof renovation plus adding space, it might be a costly endeavor. It could be better to consider looking for another house that meets your needs instead.
