Dealing with Rotted Deck Rim – Need Some Help!

Asked By MellowMoon99 On

I've recently noticed some rot on the outer band rim of my deck, enough that I can see the ledger board beneath. The decay seems to be roughly the width of a joist or so. We're planning to replace the deck soon, but I wanted to ask if creating wood blocking to fill the rotted area would be a feasible temporary fix. Has anyone faced something similar? Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, using wood blocking is pretty much just a temporary fix. It might cover the issue for now, but it won’t really solve the root problem. I’d recommend just replacing the rotted band rim when you get a chance. It might be a hassle, but future you will definitely appreciate it!

It sounds like a bigger job than I was hoping for. Any idea on what that might cost?
