I'm looking to set up a security camera above my garage and want to make sure I'm doing it right. The outside of the garage has stone walls, so I was planning to use a masonry drill bit, some spray foam, and caulk for the installation. Should I drill the hole for the wiring between the grout lines, or is it better to go through the uneven stone face? Also, is there a soffit present?

Drilling through the grout lines is generally better to avoid damaging the stone face. That way, you keep the installation looking nice and prevent any cracks. Just take your time with the masonry bit, and you'll be good to go!
If you have a soffit, that's actually ideal! You can run the wiring through there, which can make the installation cleaner and easier. Plus, it protects the wires from the elements. Just be sure to seal everything well to avoid any moisture issues.

Yeah, I'd second that! It’s less likely to cause issues with the stone and helps maintain aesthetics.
