Why Is My Shower Suddenly Pelted with High Water Pressure?

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a weird situation in my bathroom. Recently, the water pressure in my shower has skyrocketed to an insane level! It feels like I'm getting hammered by the water, to the point where it's actually uncomfortable to stand under the stream. Just a few weeks ago, the pressure was pretty low, so I'm really puzzled about what's going on. Is there a way to adjust the water pressure, or would switching out the shower head be a good idea? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you noticed if the shower feels a bit like needles? If that’s the case, it could be that your shower head is clogged with limescale. A great way to fix that is to soak the head in vinegar overnight to help clear it up. If the shower is the only outlet experiencing this high pressure, you might want to try partially opening the tap or invest in a shower head with a shut-off feature to ease the flow.

Good tip about the limescale! I had the same issue, and vinegar did wonders. Definitely worth a shot!

I second that! My pressure problem was just a clogged shower head, and vinegar did the job!

It sounds like your pressure limiting valve might be acting up. Normally, these valves reduce the city water pressure (which can be over 120 psi) to a safe level for your home, around 60 psi. If it's failing, that could explain the sudden high pressure. Check some other faucets in your apartment to see if they're experiencing the same issue. If they are, that's likely the culprit!
