I messed up while wiring our townhouse for Ethernet and accidentally drilled large holes through what I think are load-bearing studs. I'm really worried I've damaged the structure. The holes are on the second floor of my five-story townhouse. I'm considering cutting a square dowel to fit the notches I've made and using a metal bracket for reinforcement. Does anyone have advice on how to properly fix this situation?

You're actually probably fine! It's common to drill half-inch holes in studs. Ideally, keep them centered next time. For a fix, just get a 2x4, cut it to size, and sister that to the cut stud, then reattach your plate.
Honestly, if you weren't sure what you were doing initially, messing with structural stuff isn't the best idea. It might be wise to call in a pro to check it out.
