I accidentally hit a slate on my roof while painting the house and now there's paint on it. Is there a safe way to remove it without having to replace the slate?

Using paint thinner and some light sandpaper can work wonders for removing paint from slate. Just keep in mind that slate is tough, so it should handle it well! But definitely do a spot test in an inconspicuous area first.
Consider using emery cloth or light steel wool, but watch out for potential scratches. Worst case, paint stripper can help, and it shouldn't harm the slate.
You can try gently scraping the paint off with a razor blade since slate is quite durable. Be careful not to dig too deep!
