Accidentally Made a Hole in the Wall Next to My Window – How Can I Fix It?

I accidentally made a hole in my drywall while trying to remove a nail that was holding up a picture frame. My mom thinks the hole is about 4 inches wide, but she won't let me check with a tape measure, so I'm not sure of the exact size. The hole is in a tight spot between the window and the closet, so I don't think I can use the usual method of cutting out a larger section. I'm looking for advice on how to patch it up properly without making the situation worse.

Before you get started with any fixes, it’s good to know what material you’re working with. Since you mentioned it's drywall, you can easily patch it up! I’d recommend taking a photo and sharing that to get more tailored advice, but typically you can use spackling paste and a putty knife for a small hole like that.

I’ve seen some pretty good tutorials on patching drywall. If you check out this video starting around the 2:55 mark, it shows you how to use a patch to fix smaller holes. It’s not too complicated! Just make sure to follow the steps for a clean finish.

I totally get the frustration of a messed-up wall. You mentioned your mom is planning to fix it – maybe she has a plan already? Sometimes it's easier if you work together. A quick solution could be using a piece of drywall tape and some compound to smooth it out, but again, it all depends on the specifics.
