I'm looking to attach a hose reel to my stucco wall and could really use some advice. What are some general tips or hints for making this work effectively without damaging the wall?

One good option is to install a post right next to the wall instead of drilling directly into the stucco. This way, you can avoid any potential damage to the wall itself. It keeps everything secure and looks nice too!
I actually followed this method to protect my Hardie siding. I used two 4x4s, cut them at a 45-degree angle on top to help rainwater run off, and painted them to match my siding. I set the post in concrete bags, and it's been solid ever since!

Great idea! I did something similar and it turned out really well.
