What Veggies Should I Grow in Zone 7 Right Now?

I'm a beginner gardener and just got my hands dirty planting a few vegetables. I'm curious about what other veggies might be good to grow right now if you're in Zone 7. So far, I've planted beets, kale, spinach, and some herbs. I'm really tempted to try growing tomatoes and corn, but I'm not sure if they're in season yet. Honestly, I'm loving this gardening journey; it's thrilling to know I can grow food myself!

If you're in Zone 7b, just be cautious with corn; it might not be the best option. For tomatoes, look for varieties that have a quick harvest time, around 45-50 days. Lettuce is also a good choice since it grows pretty quickly. Hope this helps!

I appreciate it! I'll keep an eye out for those tomato options and will try the corn at the right moment.

I'm in Zone 7a too! If you can find mature tomato plants at a nursery that are already flowering, then go for it! Just remember, if you start from seeds, they might not produce fruit before the frost hits. Your kale and other plants should do well, though! I recently added some more Swiss chard and spinach—they're sprouting already! Consider growing late-season or cool-weather plants, and keep an eye out for any discounted plants at local shops. I once got a watermelon plant on sale that had a little fruit already on it! Definitely plan for next season's seedlings, too. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Watermelon sounds fun to grow. I'm excited to plan for next season already!

In Zone 7a, I start my tomatoes indoors around March and then put them outside in April or May. As for corn, I typically seed that around the same time as tomatoes. Just make sure to check your local frost dates! Good luck with your garden!

Thanks a lot! I'm definitely trying tomatoes and corn when the right time comes.
