Why Are My Floor Boards Darkening Around the Edges?

Asked By CuriousCat92 On

I've noticed some darkening along the edges of a few of my floor boards. I live in a second-floor condo, with a garage underneath, so I don't think leaks or moisture are issues. Any ideas on what might be causing this and how I can prevent it from getting worse?

That darkening could be caused by a few things, but it might be worth checking if it's just dirt first. Have you tried giving the area a good scrub? Sometimes, it's just a bit of grime that builds up. If mopping didn’t help, there could be a more serious issue at play.

Yeah, I thought it might be dirt too, but if it's not coming off after mopping, then it’s likely something else.

It sounds like it might be moisture creeping in. Have you looked around for any nearby sources like a dishwasher or fridge? Also, if your dog has had accidents in that area, it could potentially lead to the wood being darkened.

That’s true! The dark areas are spots my dog has peed on before, but surprisingly, the other boards are fine.
