How to Deal with Persistent Bitumen Smell After Waterproofing?

Hey everyone! A year ago, when my house was being constructed, they waterproofed the floors using bitumen and foil, and then they poured a 5 cm concrete screed right after. Now, almost a year later, there's still a strong smell of bitumen, almost like glue. Could this be related to the way the concrete was applied? What can I do to fix this? Thanks for your help!

It's possible that there’s an area where the concrete wasn’t poured completely, leaving the bitumen exposed. I’d recommend checking around for any spots where you might see the bitumen peeking through.

Yeah, but isn’t it strange that it still smells after a year? Seems like it shouldn't be that strong.

Bitumen can actually have a lingering smell for years, especially if there’s a part that’s exposed. It might help to ventilate the area well to see if that eases the smell.

I wonder if the concrete might be trapping some of the fumes, making them come through. Could that be a factor?
