I've got a new dishwasher that measures 34'' at its maximum height, but my countertop is at 34.25''. Is a 1/4 inch gap enough for it to fit? A contractor I consulted isn't sure it will work without damaging the countertop due to its trim style, and he's concerned that the countertop might be glued to the cabinets. Since I purchased the dishwasher two weeks ago from Home Depot and they only allow returns within 48 hours, that's not an option for me now. What should I do?

As long as you can squeeze it in there, you should be fine! 1/4 inch is generally good enough if you're careful when installing.
You might want to check how your flooring is laid out under the cabinets. If the flooring stops at the cabinet base and there's a height difference, then the contractor might be right about its fit. Just make sure the feet on the dishwasher are fully screwed in and measure from the floor up to the countertop again before trying to install it.

I just bought the house a month ago, so I'm not too sure about the flooring layout.
