I recently installed a ceiling fan, but I'm having a problem with the pull chains. When the fan runs at its highest speed, the chains swing around and keep hitting each other. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Would making the chains shorter help, or can I add some weight to them so they remain still?

One solution is to head over to a hardware store and grab clear vinyl tubing with an inner diameter that’s just a bit larger than your pull chain. Cut the tubing a bit shorter than the chain itself, pop off the fob, slide the tubing on, and then reattach the fob. This should help reduce the swinging!

That's a clever idea! How does the tubing help keep them from swinging, though?
