Is It Worth Getting an SDS Rotary Hammer If I Already Have a DCD1007?

I'm considering buying a DCH172 SDS rotary hammer to complement my DCD1007 for my cordless tool set. Most of my work involves drilling into concrete or brick walls for cable and hoses, and I usually use my corded Makita SDS drill for that. Since I often work on roofs, it seems like a cordless SDS drill would be handy instead of dealing with a 30-meter extension cord. Is the DCH172 a good choice?

While the DCD1007 is great for many tasks, a dedicated hammer drill is definitely better for tougher concrete. If you can get a good deal on the DCH172, just make sure it has a chipping function too, so you can also remove tiles or use it as a mini jack hammer when needed.

I found a DCH172 on Facebook Marketplace for $100, which seems like a steal compared to the $350 DCH273. But some videos show the DCH172 as a bit weaker than the DCD999, so I'm debating it.

Absolutely! If you’re using a 26mm corded hammer, the DeWalt equivalents would probably be more like the DCH133 or 263. The DCH172 is much smaller and might not give you the power you need for heavy duty jobs.

I own two DCH133Bs and they're fantastic! However, I just had to use a corded SDS rotary hammer for a tough job drilling 54 half-inch holes through 14 inches of concrete. Some tasks really need the power of a corded tool, so it might be worth considering that for tougher jobs.
