I recently purchased a Gen 2 M12 Stubby 1/2" impact wrench because I've heard great reviews, and I thought it would be a perfect fit for my job at a tire shop, handling lug nuts, brakes, and suspension work. However, upon using it for the first time, I found it struggled to loosen lug nuts even though the batteries were fully charged. After a bit of usage, the tool got extremely hot – hot enough that I could barely hold it – and I noticed grease and metal shavings coming out of the tip. Given I spent a good amount on this kit, I'm seriously disappointed. Is this a sign that I should contact Milwaukee? Could it be a defective unit? I know the lug nuts were within the rated limits (no more than 150 ft/lbs), so I expected it to perform better.

Just checking, were you using a 5.0Ah battery? That's usually recommended for optimal performance with those models. I have the 3/8 stubby and use an adapter for lug nuts without issues.
Sounds like you might have gotten a faulty unit, especially if it overheats and produces metal shavings. I suggest returning it for an exchange if you're still within the store's return policy.
I think I’ll do that, thanks for the advice!
Definitely contact Milwaukee if you're facing these issues. Even though mine worked fine, I've heard of others having similar experiences. If you're outside your return window, reaching out to Milwaukee's support might be your best bet.
Good to know! I’ll reach out to them if the return isn't possible.

Yes, I was using the 5.0Ah battery. So it could still be faulty?
