I've tried planting garlic over a dozen times, and while they do sprout green stalks and grow tall, they end up wilting and dying after a while. I've made sure to water them without overdoing it and have proper irrigation set up. What else should I be doing to keep them healthy?

Honestly, my garlic does great just being left alone! I planted some store-bought garlic in the fall and only added a layer of leaves as mulch before winter hit. I didn't bother watering it until spring, and every single clove sprouted and is thriving! Sometimes less is more with garlic.
I think we need a bit more background. When did you plant the garlic? Where are you located? How much light do they get? Since you mentioned you're in a tropical country, that could affect things too. Make sure you check the soil moisture before watering because garlic needs well-drained soil. Their wilting could be due to insufficient sunlight.

I planted them in mid-January and I live in a tropical area. Currently, it's the dry season. I tried planting them in pots, with one in direct sunlight and the other sheltered under a translucent roof. They both died around the same time just this week.
