Road Trip from Boston to Chicago: Any Woodworking Stops to Recommend?

Asked By WoodLover99 On

I'm planning a road trip from Boston to Chicago and I'm considering taking I-90 through Buffalo and Cleveland. I'm on the lookout for cool woodworking stops along the way, like tool stores, flea markets, tool swaps, places to find interesting lumber, or anywhere that might sell a knockdown workbench. I know this is a bit of a niche request, but I'd love to hear from any woodworkers out there who might have recommendations! Also, if anyone's looking to sell or trade hand tools on the route, I'd be interested in that too!

If you're heading through Cleveland, definitely check out Hartville Hardware. It's a total paradise for tool lovers! You should also look into Cleveland Tool and Cutter for some quality finds. If you're game for a slight detour, Keim Lumber in Charm, Ohio is amazing; they have tools and exotic lumber right in Amish country. Lehman's is a cool spot as well!

There's a neat antique mall in Little Falls, NY that usually has a good selection of woodworking tools. Plus, it’s right on the river, which makes for a nice stop while you're traveling.

Thank you!! I’ll check it out!

While it’s not exactly what you asked for, if you're into furniture design, you should swing by the Art Institute in Chicago. They have a fantastic collection of Federal, Shaker, and Arts & Crafts pieces that can really inspire your woodworking!
