Hey everyone! My range hood is over 5 years old and it's been getting progressively louder. It started with just a steady hum, but now it's so loud that I can barely hear myself in the kitchen. I had someone check the ducting and they said it looks fine, so I don't think it's a blockage issue. I also notice that it seems less effective at getting rid of odors, and there's a greasy film building up on my walls and spice jars. I'm honestly wondering if it's doing its job at all. Should I just look into replacing it? Any recommendations for a better model?

It sounds like your range hood might be pretty filthy! A lot of grease buildup can clog the fan and stop it from working properly, which could explain the noise and bad smells. Consider cleaning the filters and the fan assembly if you haven't done so already. It can really help with performance!
If it’s getting loud and not doing its job properly, it could be the fan blade is loose or that there’s an issue with the motor bearings. You might also want to see if it's ducted outside or has a buildup of dust and grease that could cause a problem. Time for a thorough cleaning!
When your kitchen starts getting greasy, it's a solid sign that the hood is failing. You can test if it’s working by holding a paper towel near the intake; if it doesn't get pulled in, it's not moving air. Personally, I’d suggest replacing it—cooking in a greasy kitchen isn’t good for your skin or lungs!
Definitely! And when you do find a new one, look for one with good suction power. It's a game changer.

Yeah, and if the fan is covered in grease, that could make it vibrate too, which adds to the noise. Definitely worth checking out!
