Can I Legally Grow Vegetables for My Restaurant?

Asked By SunnyGarden2023 On

I'm currently working at a restaurant that has a garden area, including a poly tunnel where we can grow food. I'm curious if I'm legally allowed to grow vegetables like tomatoes for use in our restaurant menu. What kind of regulations might I need to be aware of? Is a license needed, or can I just go ahead and start planting?

The legality of growing your own veggies really depends on local council regulations. Some councils have rules about different types of produce and may require risk assessments based on what you’re growing. For instance, potatoes might be classified as low risk, while salad greens could fall into a high-risk category. It's a good idea to check with your local council to get the specifics.

Yeah, I know several restaurants that grow their own produce, including places like the Pig Hotels, so it seems manageable!
