Do I Need to Test Gas Pressure When Replacing My Stove Top?

Hey folks! I just got a new gas stove top and I'm planning to swap it out for our old one. The installation guide mentions checking the gas pressure, but I'm unsure if that's really necessary since I'm just replacing an appliance that's the same size. Both stove tops are 30 inches; the old one is a GE Profile, and the new one is an Empava, which I'm not familiar with. Can I just remove the old one and put the new one in without testing the pressure?

Honestly, the main thing to focus on is checking for leaks. That's more critical than pressure testing. Just make sure to use the right high-density Teflon tape, sometimes yellow, and pipe dope that’s certified for gas. You can test for leaks by mixing water with a bit of dish soap and spraying it on the connections to look for bubbles.

I consider myself a pretty capable DIYer, but when it comes to gas installations, I wouldn't take the risk myself. It could even be illegal in some places unless you're a certified gas installer, so I’d recommend hiring a professional.

Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely going to check with my city on the regulations.

I've never heard of anyone testing the gas pressure when just swapping out ranges. As long as your old stove was working fine, you should be in the clear! Just make sure everything’s secure when you connect the new one.
