Best Shop Vac for Drywall Sander: Suggestions Needed

Asked By CraftyKnight92 On

I just bought a drywall sander and I'm looking for recommendations on which shop vac to pair it with. My old Dewalt DXV10P (10-gallon) has served me well for 6-7 years, but it seems to have finally given up—the motor is making a weird high-pitched noise, and it smells burnt while spitting out rust. I'm considering options like a stainless steel model or a 16-gallon plastic one with a suitcase handle, both around $220. Should I stick with the same one I had, or is it worth upgrading? I'm also exploring the 60V dust extractor but wonder if I should just invest in something high-end like Festool. I appreciate if anyone could assist me with this and provide a link for an attachment to connect my new sander to the shop vac. Additionally, I've liked the features of the Dewalt vac, such as its rolling wheels and attachment storage. I already have a smaller corded unit and the 20V Dewalt vac, so I'm aiming for something in the 10+ gallon range.

If you're looking to save some money, a cheap Rigid vac could do the trick, especially if you use bag liners to keep the dust at bay. Sometimes simpler can get the job done just fine!

I’ve heard great things about the Harbor Freight dust extractor. It's gotten high ratings in YouTube reviews! You might want to check out Stealthsonic vacs too—they perform really well. They seem to be a reliable choice if you want something efficient for drywall work.

Sounds promising! I'll look into those brands, thanks!

I was impressed with the Stealthsonic too. Their specs suggest they might offer similar performance to what you liked about your old Dewalt.
