I've noticed in several YouTube videos that furniture makers often use grinder machines equipped with sanding attachments. I'm curious about why they choose this method over random orbital sanders. Are there specific advantages to using grinders for sanding, or is it just a stylistic choice?

Sanding with a grinder can really get you into trouble if you’re not careful. The edge of the disc can bite into the wood and leave you with some nasty gouges. I think an orbital sander offers much more control. If I see someone using a grinder for sanding, I can’t help but think they might be a beginner unless it’s for something like a sculptural piece.
Using a grinder can really speed up material removal, especially during rough sanding. I have an 8-inch orbital buffing tool that I prefer for those big jobs. It tends to leave less pigtailing when I do the rough stuff at 120 grit, and then I'll switch to a finishing sander for the higher grits. It’s all about efficiency!
Grinders are great when you need to remove a lot of material fast. It’s definitely more of a prep tool than a finish tool. Just be cautious with speed control since it can easily mar the surface. And maybe what you're seeing could be geared random orbital sanders, which can look quite similar to angle grinders!
