I'm looking to paint some wood yellow but I want to maintain the natural grain of the wood. I initially thought about using a yellow stain, but after testing it on scrap wood, I wasn't satisfied with the result. I'm wondering if there's a better technique or product I could use that would allow me to achieve a yellow finish while still showing off the wood grain. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check out using dyes instead of traditional paint. Dyes can give you a vibrant color while still allowing the grain to show through, which seems to fit what you're looking for.
Mixing some yellow tint with polyurethane is a good avenue to explore. It can add color without covering up the grain completely.
Consider using an oil varnish with some pigments. This way, you can glaze the wood and build up layers of yellow while keeping the natural grain visible. Just remember, if you're starting with a darker wood, it might be tricky to get a bright yellow look that’s still transparent.
Acrylic paints are another option. You can experiment with how much you thin them out to get the right look. Keep in mind, though, whatever method you choose, the underlying color will still influence the final appearance.

You could also try Milk Paint; it's water-based and can yield great results on wood. Just make sure to thin it properly to get the look you want.
