Hey everyone, I'm really anxious about the state of the ceiling in my master bedroom (check out the image here: [IMGR Link](https://imgur.com/a/fmZevR1)). Just to clarify, I'm renting and sleep next door. I recently had it tested for asbestos. I know it's mainly the landlord's responsibility, but I'm freaking out. If the test comes back positive for asbestos, does that mean it's constantly releasing fibers into the air? Also, do I need to vacate the apartment if it turns out that the ceiling has asbestos in it? I'd really appreciate any advice because I'm in full panic mode right now.

Take a deep breath! It's good that you're getting it tested. If the results show negative, then great! Even if it's positive, it's mainly on the landlord. Asbestos-related illnesses usually come from long-term exposure, not just being around it for a little while. Most popcorn ceilings are made like this and don't pose a risk to tenants. If it eases your mind, you could paint over the ceiling to seal it up and prevent any fibers from getting into the air. But honestly, you should be fine.
Looks like a standard popcorn ceiling to me. What year was your house built? That can give us clues about the likelihood of asbestos being present.

I asked my landlord, and it's from 1951. Not sure if it has gone through any renovations or repairs, though.
