What’s a Typical Work Schedule for Contractors During a Renovation?

Hey everyone! We're currently two weeks into our renovation project and have already fallen three days behind schedule. I've noticed that the asbestos and electrical contractors are mainly working from about 10 AM to 3 PM. I'm curious if this is typical for contractors in the SF Bay Area? Should I bring this up with our general contractor?

In my experience, many contractors juggle multiple jobs, which can mean shorter hours on site each day. If they’re only giving you five hours, that’s definitely on the low side. You might want to consider if that’s working for you or if you need to push for longer hours. It really depends, but it could be worth discussing with your contractor, especially with the schedule slipping.

It's not uncommon for contractors to work those hours, especially if they have long commutes or need time for setup and cleanup. I’d guess they may be dealing with traffic or other jobs, too. Still, don't hesitate to chat with your general contractor about your concerns since you're already running behind schedule.

Definitely bring this up with the lead contractor! It’s important to set expectations for work hours early on. Approach it in a non-accusatory way, just wanting to understand how they can catch up on the schedule. If you leave it up to them, they might end up creating hours that don't work for you. Just try to keep the conversation constructive!
