I'm dealing with a messy front yard in Zone 6b Pennsylvania. I've got grass everywhere, and morning glory is wrapping around my roses and hydrangeas, which is really concerning. I'm thinking about planting mint, specifically lemon balm, since I've heard it might help with the overgrowth and aroma could be a bonus. However, I'm worried it could take over like the weeds I'm already battling. Plus, I want my roses, hydrangeas, and lavender to thrive. Would planting mint be a good idea after all?

Honestly, mint is notoriously invasive! It spreads like crazy and can quickly take over your garden. While lemon balm may be a slightly better option since it doesn't spread as aggressively as other mints, it still won’t help you deal with the morning glory. You might want to consider alternatives instead. Morning glory is tough, and a mint plant might just add to your problems!
Haha, I hear you! It looks pretty but is totally a problem once it gets out of control.
I wouldn't recommend mint at all. It's an invasive plant and can negatively impact your existing garden. You'll likely just end up with more issues, especially if the morning glory is already a challenge. Look into other ground covers that are native to your area—they might give you better results without the hassle!
Totally agree! I’ve battled mint before, and it’s like trying to put a genie back in a bottle.
Mint will definitely try to take over your garden! Different varieties like peppermint and lemon balm have varying levels of invasiveness. I’ve planted lemon balm before, and while it does well, it still requires some management to keep it in check. Plus, it does love sunshine, so your front yard could work if you’re going that route. Just be prepared to pull it back occasionally!
Good to know! Maybe I’ll just stick with growing it in pots if I decide to go for it.

Sounds like a nightmare with the invasives! I’ve dealt with morning glory before, and it’s definitely not easy.
