Building a DIY Mini Grid System – Need Help Finding Parts!

I'm interested in creating a mini grid system for fun, as I'm really fascinated by industrial electricity. I want my setup to be as realistic as possible, aside from the generation aspect. My plan is to run the main bus transmission lines at 48V and 1-2A. I want to start with a wall outlet and get a converter from 120VAC to 12VAC, labeling this section as 'generation' to mimic actual generation processes. Then, I plan to step it up using a transformer to achieve 48VAC for the transmission lines that will span on poles and then step down to 12VAC again before distributing to various devices, which I could switch to 12VDC depending on the projects I come up with, like fans, lights, or conveyor belts. However, I can't find a converter that takes my wall outlet from 120VAC to 12VAC, which is crucial for my project. Any suggestions on what parts I might need for this, particularly the converter? Also, any other advice would be greatly appreciated! I intend to fit everything on a 4x4 foot piece of plywood.

You could try using a 24VAC control transformer instead. They're usually pretty affordable and should do the job!

I'm looking at one right now, but why does it have six wires? Any idea?
