Do I Need a GFCI Outlet for My New Dishwasher?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the DIY world and could really use some guidance. I just got a new dishwasher being delivered, and the installation company mentioned that I might need to upgrade a few things which could cost extra: specifically, an air gap, a shut-off valve, and possibly a GFCI outlet. I'm fine with the first two, but I'm not sure if my current outlet is GFCI protected. It doesn't have any test or reset buttons, and my electric panel also lacks a test button. How can I check if I have GFCI protection? Both my garbage disposal and dishwasher are connected to the same outlet, so any tips would be appreciated!

It sounds like your outlet isn't GFCI since it should at least have a GFCI breaker if it were. To really confirm, using a tool like a GFCI tester is a good idea. You can check this link for one that might save you some cash: https://amzn.to/4p0eBLu. But honestly, you might save more just getting a cheaper tester for about $6 instead: https://www.harborfreight.com/electrical-receptacle-tester-with-gfci-diagnosis-63929.html.

You can use a GFCI receptacle tester to check if your outlet is wired correctly. Just plug it in, and if you press the button and the lights go out, it means it's connected to another GFCI circuit. If nothing happens, then it's not a GFCI at all. Here's a tester you can check out: https://a.co/d/2IfmxEq.
