Can I Save My Gem Box Inkberries That Are Losing Leaves?

I've recently planted some Gem Box Inkberry shrubs in my backyard, where they get full sun (over 6 hours daily). They arrived on August 18, but I noticed a few had leaves falling off right out of the box. I thought it might just be transplant shock, so I planted them immediately, using compost I made and some fertilizer that was recommended by Proven Winners. However, after a week, some of the plants have lost almost all their leaves. I've been watering them daily—using low pressure and letting the hose run for 20 seconds at the roots. I'm also in the process of setting up drip irrigation. Is there any chance to salvage these plants?

It looks like you're doing the right things by mixing in compost and fertilizing. Leaf drop can sometimes be a reaction to stress, especially right after planting. Keep an eye on soil moisture—overwatering can be just as harmful as underwatering. You might want to cut back on the daily watering if the soil is staying wet. Also, ensure they’re getting enough airflow around them to prevent any fungal issues.

Yeah, and don’t forget to check for any pests that might be nibbling on them. Sometimes that can be the hidden issue.

I think there’s still hope! Gem Box Inkberries can bounce back if they go through transplant shock. Just make sure you’re not overwatering them. Have a look at the drainage too—if water is pooling around the roots, that can lead to root rot, which might be contributing to the leaf loss. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for the tips! I'll monitor the drainage closely and adjust the watering schedule.
