Frustrated with Window Installation Issues—What Can I Do?

I've been dealing with a nightmare window installation for almost three months now, and I'm really at my breaking point. My partner hired a couple of contractors on the side to save money, but it's been nothing but constant delays and communication issues. With my health issues (I'm battling cancer), I've had to rearrange my work and hospital schedule multiple times due to their interruptions.

The main reason for replacing the windows was to cut down on noise, but the new windows don't seem to help at all! I can still hear conversations outside as if the windows aren't even there. They assured us that the sound issue would be fixed once the trim went up, but that hasn't happened, and it's still a huge problem.

We've been pushed towards double-pane windows filled with argon gas instead of triple-pane, which I thought would be better. To top it off, there's a chip in the large bedroom window they installed, which they brushed off as 'fine.' Plus, there's an odd suction flow of air from the bathroom window allowing outdoor noise to flood in.

On top of the window chaos, they also made a mess painting and even brought COVID into our home. It just feels like none of this should be happening, and I'm so stressed out. I'm reaching out for advice on what steps to take regarding the window quality and how to tackle this situation with the contractors. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. The cheapest option often ends up being the most expensive in the long run. Since you've already paid, it can be tough to push for fixes, especially with the contractors working on the side. It sounds like you need to make a clear list of all the issues and present that to them. Keep it separate from your personal health matters to avoid any confusion. Just be realistic—it's unlikely they’ll completely redo your windows without extra cost. You may want to look into getting someone licensed if it doesn't work out with them.

Yeah, sadly, having 'helpers' instead of licensed professionals comes with risks. You might not get much satisfaction unless you go through the official channels.
