I recently received a quote of $60 per window to hang curtain rods, which seems quite high since many handymen charge around $60-$70 an hour, and I doubt it takes an hour to install one rod. I have 8 windows, and I'm really not keen on paying a total of $480 just for installation. If you've had similar work done recently, what did you pay? I'm located in Southern California. Additionally, I have some other minor tasks lined up, like hanging floating shelves, but I'm thinking of just buying tools and doing it myself if these prices keep up. I should mention that I did ask him for an estimate on a full kitchen cabinet installation as part of a larger project.

You might want to get a few more quotes! Many handymen do charge a premium for smaller jobs since they have to cover travel and expenses, but you can totally DIY if you're open to it. Hanging curtain rods isn't tricky, and you'd learn a skill for future projects too! Just remember, if something falls, it’s not the end of the world! ?
I think the price is a bit steep for such a small job. It's often not worth hiring someone when you could probably handle it yourself in just a few minutes with the right tools. Plus, once you have those tools, you'll save money for future projects. And hey, if you do mess it up, it’s just curtains! ?
In Southern California, prices can definitely get high, but $60 a window isn't outrageous considering the labor involved. That said, it really can be straightforward to do it yourself, and fixing a mistake with a curtain rod isn’t a nightmare! You might also explore platforms like Task Rabbit for more affordable options.

Thanks! I think I might give DIY a shot. Watching some tutorials first will definitely help!
