Frustrated with My Window Installation: What Can I Do?

I've been dealing with a terrible experience regarding my window installation for almost three months now, and it's reaching a breaking point. My partner chose to save money by hiring these contractors who work on the side of their main jobs, but it's been nothing but delays, miscommunication, and stress for me. With my cancer treatment schedule, I haven't been able to work or make plans. We specifically replaced the windows to reduce noise, but the ones installed in the bedroom are still letting in conversations from outside very clearly! I was told to wait for the trim to see if it helped, but it hasn't changed at all. They recommended double-pane windows filled with argon gas, which I later found out might not even be the best choice. I've also noticed a chip in one of the large windows, and their response was simply dismissive. The bathroom window seems to have air escaping through it, making it impossible to not hear noise from outside too. To top it all off, they've painted messily, and I even caught COVID from one of the contractors! I'm desperately seeking advice about the window quality and how to address this awful situation. What steps should I take?

That really does sound like a nightmare! Just out of curiosity, have you paid the full bill yet or just a deposit? Knowing this could help you decide your next steps.

As someone who sells windows, let me tell you: going for the cheap route often ends up costing more in the long run. It seems like your partner's choice to go with subcontractors without warranties could come back to bite you both. Definitely learn from this experience for future home projects!

I'm really sorry you're going through this. The first thing you should consider is firing those contractors and finding reputable ones who will do the job properly. It might be costly, especially if there are no written contracts in place, but it sounds like you might end up spending more money on fixing this mess anyway.

Did you use a credit card? I had a similar experience with a contractor, and after documenting all the issues, I disputed the charges and got my money back. It might be worth looking into if you have the right evidence!
